About the album
The album, along with its 1982 predecessor Sheffield Steel , represented a new stage in Joe Cocker's career, representing better production and a wider use of modern technology to create high-quality sound.
The compositions of side “A” were recorded in Los Angeles with the participation of the musicians of the group Toto ( Steve Lucater , Jeff Porcaro, David Page) and produced by Gary Katz. Side B was recorded in Nashville and was produced by Stuart Levin. In "Long Drag Off a Cigarette" was played by Joe's former bandmate Jim Keltner .
Civilized Man secured the success of its predecessor, taking advantage of success in Europe.
