The name appeared in the last quarter of the XIX century. It comes from the area of the gunboat in which it is located. Later, at the beginning of the 20th century, the neighboring street began to be called Bolshaya Kanonenskaya (now it is called Kommunarov Street ).
On April 14, 1975 Malaya Kanonerskaya Street was legally included in Tokarev Street , but this decision was not implemented [1] .
