Baron Crofton

Baron Crofton of Mout in Roscommon County is a hereditary title in the Perembroke system of Ireland . It was created on December 1, 1797 for Lady Ann Crofton (1751–1817). She was the widow of Sir Edward Crofton, 2nd Baronet of Mott (1748–1797), who represented Roscommon County in the Irish House of Commons (1775–1797). Edward Crofton was to receive the title of peer, but passed away, the peerdom was transferred to his widow. Anne Crofton was succeeded by her grandson, Edward Crofton, 2nd Baron Crofton (1806–1869), who also received the title of 4th Baronet. He sat in the House of Lords of Great Britain as an Irish representative peer (1840–1869) and served as a lord pending (government “ whip ” in the House of Lords) in the conservative administrations of Count Derby and Benjamin Disraeli (1852, 1858–1859, 1866— 1868). His son, Edward Henry Churchill Crofton, 3rd Baron Crofton (1834–1912), also sat in the House of Lords as an Irish peer-representative in 1873–1912, and also served as a steward of the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland. His nephew, Arthur Edward Lowther Crofton, 4th Baron Crofton (1866–1942), was an Irish peer representative in the House of Lords from 1916 to 1942 . As of 2014, the title bearer was Edward Harry Pearce Crofton, 8th Baron Crofton (born 1988), who succeeded his father in 2007 .

The title of Baronet Crofton of Mouth ( Baronet of Ireland ) was created on June 12, 1758 for Marcus Crofton (d. 1784 ), who sat in the Irish House of Commons from Rathot (1753–1760, 1769–1776) and Roscommon (1761—1768). Born as Marcus Lawther, he was the husband of Catherine Crofton, the daughter of Sir Edward Crofton, 4th Baronet of Mott (1713-1745). Markus Lowther took the name "Crofton". He was succeeded by his son, the aforementioned Sir Edward Crofton, 2nd Baronet (1748–1797), whose wife was elevated to the rank of peer in 1797 . After the death of Edward Crofton, 2nd Baronet, his son, Sir Edward Crofton, 3rd Baronet (1778–1816), and then the last son, Sir Edward Crofton, 4th Baronet (1806–1869), inherited the title In 1817 he inherited the title of 2nd Baron Crofton.
