Jan Filitsky ( Slovak. Ján Filický, circa 1585 , Vlkova (modern Slovakia ) - † 1622 , Sárospatak , Hungary ) is a Slovak poet of the era of humanism.

Biography

He came from an impoverished noble family, received his education in Levoche and Kezhmark , also studied in Germany and in Prague . He worked as a teacher in various families, in 1617 he became a professor in the Calvinist school in the city of Sharoshpatak .

Creativity

He dedicated his poems to animals and people (to his pets, as well as poets, teachers, rectors of German universities, etc.), in many verses he described comic cases, created fables involving animals, was fond of sharp satire and caricature, depicted human vices - from stupidity and drunkenness to national intolerance. Of particular note is his poem Ad Sphettium, in which he stands up for the protection of Slavic peoples.
