Илиilina city book

Zhilinsky book.

The илиilina town book or the илиilina book is a legal-linguistic monument, written in 1378-1561 . on the territory of Slovakia .

The book consists of three parts:

  • The text of the Magdeburg City Law of 1378.
  • Translation of text into Slovakian Czech 1473.
  • 117 different texts of 1380–1561 in Latin, German and (since 1451) Slovakian-Czech. Texts in Slovak Czech contain many elements of the Slovak dialects of that time used in the vicinity of the city of Zilina. The text of 1451 is considered by some authors to be the oldest surviving “book text” in the Slovak language.

The book contains 149 sheets, written by hand and has a leather binding.

In 1988, the book was declared a national cultural monument.
