History
The village of Reinickendorf was founded in ca. 1230, the first written record dates back to 1344. In 1920, Reinikkendorf, in the course of the formation of the “Greater Berlin”, together with numerous adjacent territories, was annexed to the German capital as part of the newly formed District of Reinickendorf , which received the same name. Later in 1938, the settlements of Wilhelmsrau and Schönholz were transferred from the District of Reinickendorf to the district of Pankow.
Due to the fact that the area is located on the overhead line of Tegel Airport , residents of the area are more exposed to noise from this airport than any other. From 1960-1970-ies, residential buildings of the area receive soundproof windows. Nevertheless, the number of residential new buildings in the area in recent years remains small.
