Biography
Giuseppe Grioli - one of the most prominent representatives of the Italian school of mathematical physics, was born in Messina .
He graduated with honors first in physics and then in mathematics at the University of Messina . On the recommendation of his supervisor, Renato Einaudi ( Italian Renato Einaudi ), he went to Rome , where he met Antonio Signorini who soon recognized his outstanding research abilities. Einaudi and Signorini presented the young Grioli to Professor Mauro Picone , the founder and director of the National Institute of Analysis Applications (Istituto Nazionale per le Applicazioni del Calcolo, INAC) National Research Council (CNR) in Rome. In 1938, Grioli was interviewed by Picone, after which he was taken to the place vacated after Wolfgang Gröbner .
In Rome, Grioli received the opportunity to communicate with many mathematicians, among whom were Amaldi , Segre , Severi , Fantappie , Bompiani , Konforto and others. He also worked together with Tolotti , Gizetti and especially from Fiker with whom he became a good friend.
In 1949, J. Grioli received an invitation to become a full professor in the department of rational mechanics at the University of Cagliari . But at the same time, he received a chair at the University of Padua , where he worked for the rest of his life. Since 1968, for seven years, in a difficult time of student protests, prof. Grioli worked as a dean of the Faculty of Science. In Padua, he founded a famous scientific school in the field of mechanics. After retirement prof. Grioli became an honorary professor at the University of Padua.
In 1969, prof. Grioli was elected Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Dei Lincei . For his research activities in 1973, he was awarded the Linchei Prize in Mathematics, Mechanics and Applications [3] . In 1979, he was appointed Dean of the Section of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics.
Prof. Grioli was also a member of the Venice Institute of Science, Literature and Arts , Padua Academy of Sciences, Literature and Arts , National Academy of Sciences , Accademia peloritana dei Pericolanti, Turin Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Palermo .
