Biography

Born at the station Penek Chulymsky district of the Novosibirsk region . He began to study music in Novosibirsk: in 1962 he entered the local music school in the composition class of L. S. Agabalyan, and three years later - in the Novosibirsk Conservatory , where he studied composition with Professor A. F. Murov. However, already in 1967 he moved to Rostov-on-Don and continued his studies at the Rostov Musical Pedagogical Institute in the class of professors Zeydman and Klinichev . The graduation work was the opera Golden Key based on the tale of Alexei Tolstoy [1] . In the future, he often turned to music for children, both in the opera ("Turnip", "Ryaba Kurochka") and choral, and instrumental (concert for piano and the Lukomorye orchestra) genres [2] .

After graduating from the university in 1970, he remained teaching the composition of the musical pedagogical institute (transformed into a conservatory in 1992). Later he became a professor in the department of the theory of music and composition, dean of several departments of the conservatory, and in 2010 he was appointed head of the department of solo singing. Ten of his students subsequently themselves became members of the Union of Composers of Russia. In addition to teaching, he also led organizational activities, in particular, he was the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Rostov Composer Organization [1] .

Creativity

The author of various works in various genres of academic music , with a focus on theatrical and choral forms, a significant place in the work is occupied by music for children [3] . The composer's work is alien to the avant-garde and is in line with the "traditional" classical music. At the same time, musicologist A. Zucker believes that Hodosh “is characterized by versatility, breadth of interests, a special type of artistic thinking, which is characterized by the desire to reflect life in its most diverse manifestations, to experience the joy of creative transformation ” [1] . Quite often, the composer turned to the works of Chekhov : in addition to three one-act operas (“Defenseless Creature”, “Witch”, “Bear”), there is also a cantata in his work “After reading“ Bishop “A.P. Chekhov”. In 2009, for the creation of these works, Khodosh was awarded the Chekhov Prize, established by the Governor of the Rostov Region [4] .

The composer's works are performed in Russia and abroad: in 1999 the St. Petersburg Opera Theater staged the opera Defenseless Being [5] , and in 2008 the opera Bear was shown by the Rostov Musical Theater at the V competition Città di Pesaro "(Italy), where she was awarded a special diploma [6] . In 2012, the same “Bear” in a significantly expanded version was shown at the Krasnodar Musical Theater as part of the project “Three Centuries of Opera. Young to young. ” Speaking about the production, critics positively evaluated the composer's contribution: “ Hodosh ’s music is tragic and languid, crafty and ironic, slow and unexpectedly fast-moving and passionate, sharp and melodic, confidently leads the heroes to a happy ending. The composer includes fragments from the well-known classical music in the opera <...> But all the intersperses are made with talent, and therefore they organically fit into the score, give it breadth, necessary irony, and sometimes eccentricity, and life credibility ” [7] .
