Chairman of the Board and major shareholder of the Russian gas company PJSC Novatek , Chairman of the Board of Directors and the largest shareholder of the leading Russian petrochemical holding Sibur .

With a personal fortune of $ 14.4 billion, in 2016/2017 he took the 1st place among the richest Russians (according to Forbes magazine ) [1] . In 2019, according to the rating of “20 richest Russian businessmen” published by Forbes magazine , Leonid Mikhelson was recognized as the richest businessman in Russia. Biography
Leonid Mikhelson was born on August 11, 1955 in Kaspiysk. In childhood, the family moved to the city of Novokuybyshevsk of the Kuybyshev region , where Leonid graduated from school number 8 in 1972. His father, Viktor Zelmanovich Mikhelson, was engaged in the construction of oil pipelines and later became the director of the Kuybyshevtruboprovodstroy trust that built the Urengoy - Pomary - Uzhgorod gas pipeline . In the construction (in the 25th trust), Leonid Mikhelson's mother, Praskovya Fedorovna, also worked.
In 1977 he graduated from the Kuibyshev Civil Engineering Institute with a degree in civil engineering. After that, he worked as SMU foreman in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District of the Tyumen Region near the city of Surgut on the construction of the first line of the Urengoy-Chelyabinsk gas pipeline.
In 1984 he became the chief engineer of the trust "Ryazantruboprovodstroy."
In 1987 he headed the trust Kuybyshevtruboprovodstroy, which in 1991 was the first in the region to go through the process of incorporation and became a private construction enterprise of the Samara National Enterprise Nova JSC.
In 1987–1994 he was the managing director of the Samara national enterprise “Nova” JSC. Then he became the general director of the management company “Novafininvest”.
Since 2003 - member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board of OJSC Novatek.
From March 2008 to December 2010 - Member of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OJSC Stroytransgaz.
From 2008 to 2011 - Member of the Board of Directors of Art Finance LLC.
In 2011–2013, he was a member of the Supervisory Board of the All-Russian Bank of Regional Development.
Since 2011, he has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CJSC SIBUR Holding [3] .
Social work
In 2009, he created in Moscow the Contemporary Art Foundation "Victoria - Art of Being Modern" (VAC, Victoria - the Art of Being Contemporary) with the aim of presenting contemporary art of Russia in the West, integrating Russian art into the world artistic context, and also in educational and educational activities in the field of contemporary art in Russia [4] .
Together with other members of the Board of Trustees, it provides significant annual material support to the HSE and the Lyceum of the HSE [5] .
Since April 2019 - Head of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Football Union [6] .
Family
Married to Lyudmila. They have two daughters:

Awards and prizes
Leonid Mikhelson was awarded the following orders and medals [7] [8] :
- Order "Badge of Honor" .
- Medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree.
In 2009, Leonid Mikhelson became an honorary citizen of the cities of Novokuybyshevsk [9] and Tarko-Sale [10] .
At the end of 2017, he was recognized by the Vedomosti newspaper as the Businessman of the Year for starting work on Yamal LNG [11] .
