Description
Small wingless barbel beetles (hind wings absent). From a close species, Dolichostyrax moultoni is distinguished by a bulbous scape of the antennae, thickened at the apex, and the structure of the genitals. The length of the elongated or oval body in males is about 1 cm (in the range of 9.4 - 11.8 mm; width 3.5 - 4.3 mm), in slightly larger females, the length is from 11.1 to 12.5 mm (width from 4.3 to 4.9 mm). The main color is brown; antennae and paws lighter. The formula of the legs is 4-4-4. Formula of ankle spurs 2-2-2. Claws are simple, empodium is absent. The body is covered with a short tan pubescence with interspersed soil particles [1] . The species was first described in 1913 by the Swedish entomologist Per Olof Christopher Aurivillius [2] . Mandibles with one apical prong (from Borneostyrax cristatus have a two-toothed spine peak) and a ratio of antennal segments differ from other closely related species of adults : the third antenna segment is longer than the XIth antennae (in representatives of the close genus Microdolichostyrax, the IIIrd antennae is shorter than the XI -th) [1] . The valid status of the species was confirmed during an audit conducted in 2016 by Czech entomologists Radim Gabriš, Robin Kundrata and Filip Trnka ; Palacky University , Olomouc , Czech Republic [1] .
