The group turned its attention to the experimental work, which was recorded in one take. It did not receive an official name; in EMI record reports it is designated as Untitled , although it later became known as Carnival Of Light [1] .
The recording lasts 13 minutes 48 seconds and consists of the main track with the addition of a number of overlays. During the recording, McCartney briefly performed the still-recorded Fixing a Hole on the piano, according to Dudley Edwards of Binder, Edwards and Vaughan.
The first track of the tape is full of distorted, hypnotic drum and organ sounds; on the second track, a distorted lead guitar; on the third track, the sounds of a church organ, various effects (one of them is the splashing of water) and voices; the fourth track includes various indescribable sound effects with a bunch of tape echoes and a crazy tambourine. But among all the frightening sounds, voices on the third track set the tone, John and Paul were madly screaming random phrases like Are you all right? and Barcelona!
Paul finished after almost 14 minutes with a final cry to the control room: Can we hear it back now? (Can we listen now?)
Subsequently
Carnival of Light was not included on the Sgt album . Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and others. In 1996, Paul McCartney tried to include Anthology 2 , but George Harrison refused. McCartney explained that “he does not like avant-garde music and said“ avant garde a clue “”.
In an interview with Mojo Magazine in August 1996, McCartney claimed to be working on a Beatles collage photo film that was similar to the film made about the Grateful Dead in 1995 called Grateful Dead - A Photo Film. He said he planned to use Carnival of Light as a soundtrack. This project should begin, but McCartney has not commented on the film since 2002.
In November 2008, McCartney confirmed that he still owned the main tapes, adding that he suspected that "the time has come for him to get his moment." McCartney needs the consent of the widow of Lennon, Yoko Ono, and the widow of Harrison, Olivia Harrison, as well as Ringo Starr, to release this track. In 2016, McCartney stated in an interview with Rolling Stone that he viewed it as unused studio takes. During the conversation, he admitted that he played with ideas to release the song Carnival of Light.
In 2017, the song remained unreleased. Many fans wanted her included in the anniversary re-release of the Sgt album . Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band , but they never turned it on. Giles Martin was considering inclusion in the anniversary reissue and commented: “This is not part of Sergeant Pepper. This does not apply to Sergeant Pepper. This is something completely different. ”Nevertheless, he said that he could“ do something interesting ”with the track in the near future.
