IR-100 is a research nuclear reactor built and commissioned at the Sevastopol Higher Naval Engineering School in 1967, which trained specialists for the nuclear submarine fleet. The IR-100 reactor is used for research and training in the field of molecular and nuclear physics, radiation chemistry, for the production of radioactive isotopes, instruments and equipment irradiated in the fields of gamma rays, as well as for training specialists in the operation of nuclear reactors.

Design
The IR-100 reactor is heterogeneous , based on thermal neutrons, of a pool type using demineralized water as a moderator and coolant.
Structurally, the reactor is made in the form of a tank with a diameter of 1800 mm and a height of 4400 mm, on the bottom of which there is an active zone with a graphite reflector on a special stand. The reactor tank is located in the well, which is located in the array of biological protection. The active zone has the shape of a hexagonal prism and is formed from fuel cassettes (fragments), which are installed by shanks in the guide grid. The height of the active zone is 500 mm, the diameter of the prism is 460 mm.
The reactor is equipped with several experimental devices:
- recoil box 800 × 800 mm in size;
- thermal column 1200 × 1200 mm in size;
- air mail with a diameter of 30 mm;
- horizontal experimental channels with a diameter of 100 mm (3 pieces)
- vertical experimental channels with a diameter of 76 mm (2 pieces) and a diameter of 48 mm (6 pieces)
- central experimental channel with a diameter of 36 mm (1 piece)
- hot cell;
- experimental setup "sigma-sigma".
Specifications
The neutron-physical characteristics of the reactor are as follows:
- thermal power of 200 kW (using the subcritical assembly IR-200)
- the maximum temperature of the fuel rod is 373 K;
- maximum temperature at the exit from the core 328 K;
- the maximum values of the thermal neutron flux density in the center of the core are 6.4 · 10 12 (cm 2 · s) −1 ;
- moderator and coolant - demineralized water.
- reflector - demineralized water, graphite.
- thermal neutron flux density in various experimental channels at a power of 200 kW from 0.2 · 10 12 to 7.4 · 10 12 (cm 2 · s) −1
