Early years
Richard was born and raised in eastern Los Angeles , the second generation of Mexicans who immigrated to the United States. He took an active part in the gang from an early age [1] . He stated in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that his family has been associated with gangs since the 1970s. At age 13, he was imprisoned for stealing a wallet [2] . Until the age of 15, he was addicted to crack cocaine [3] . He graduated from high school, but after that, problems with the law began again. He was sentenced to prison for an assault with a firearm. At the age of 25 he was released.
Career
Trying to change their lives, his friends advised him on the Homeboy Industries program [2] . In 2009, Richard appeared on the series Southland . In 2010, he appeared in Bruno Mars ' Grenade video. In 2015, Richard starred in the television series American Crime [4] . For his participation in the role of Hector Tons, he was nominated for a prime time Emmy Award for " Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Mini-Series or Movie ".
In 2016, Richard Cabral and Robert Egan wrote the solo performance Shadow Struggle about the experience as a former gang member who spent part of his life in prison.
