Shopping street (in Slovak Obchodná ulica, originally Schöndorf street / Schöndorfská ulica , during the First Czechoslovak Republic Hungarian street / Uhorská ulica , after the Second World War - Molotova street / Molotovova ulica [1] ; German Schöndorfergasse / Schöndorfergasse ,. Utsa / Széplak utca) is a street in the Old Town of Bratislava (Slovakia) , located almost in the historical center of the city. It is a continuation of Mikhailovskaya street, ends with Kollara Square.
The street appeared as the main street of the former Schöndorf Suburb and led from the Mikhailovsky Gate to the Schöndorf Gate, located on the outer palisade fortification of the city. The oldest houses on Torgovaya Street were built around the 18th century .
It got its name, most likely, because it is one of the central streets of Bratislava and almost all of its length are shopping and restaurant establishments. Along with some other streets, it is considered a place of festivities. In 2005 and 2006 it was completely renovated, the asphalt covering was replaced throughout the street, and the tram tracks were updated.
Not far from the famous Crown Plaza Hotel, it intersects with Postal Street, now transformed into a pedestrian zone , due to which this urban space is used by citizens and guests of the capital as a place for walking and relaxing.
