The Volga-Caspian Oil Industrial and Commercial Company is a joint-stock company operating in the Russian Empire since 1898.

The charter of the company was highly approved on July 4 ( 16 ), 1897 [1] and published in the Assembly of Legalizations on September 23 ( October 5 ), 1897 .

The society was created "for the maintenance and development of the actions of the kerosene plant in the Black City , near the city of Baku , owned by the brothers G. S. and I. S. Dembots, as well as for the production, in general, of the oil field in the Caucasus and the sale of oil products." The fixed capital of the company was determined at 1,500,000 rubles, divided into 6,000 shares of 250 rubles each.

The founders of the company and its directors were Grigory Semyonovich Dembot , an oil industrialist, owner of commercial and industrial enterprises and real estate in Tsaritsyno [2] , and Iosif Semyonovich Dembot , a merchant [3] .

Society began to operate on March 10 ( 22 ), 1898 . The board of the company was located in St. Petersburg : initially on Galernaya street in house number 20, then on Bolshaya Konyushennaya street in house number 7.

The leadership of the company, along with entrepreneurs Dembots, consisted of people who did not have much entrepreneurial experience and relevant qualifications. So, the chairman of the board from 1898 to 1905 was an orientalist and public figure, Baron D. G. Gunzburg [4] . One of the directors from 1903 to 1905 was college assessor David Markovich Herzenstein - a prison doctor and writer [5] .

The St. Petersburg Treasury Chamber has repeatedly made claims against the company and its employees for various taxes and fees [6] .

In 1905, at the request of the creditors of the company, an administration for its affairs was established [7] . In the directories “ All Petersburg ”, information on the whereabouts of the administration of the company (Bolshaya Konyushennaya St., 7) was presented from 1906 to 1908 [8] .

In the St. Petersburg (Petrograd) Commercial Court, the case of recognizing the insolvency of a company was considered from 1909 to 1916 [9] , the same court considered various civil claims against the company. Issues related to the failure of the company, in accordance with their jurisdiction, were also considered in the St. Petersburg (Petrograd) District Court from 1912 to 1914 [10] .
