Biography

Pavel Tigranovich was born in a military family, his father was the head of a border outpost on the border with Turkey, his mother is unemployed. As a child, he quickly learned to control machinery, since the family had a car. After the start of World War II, he entered a tank school in the Urals .

Hero of the Soviet Union

After two battles, the commander Pavel Tigranovich sent documents to Moscow to confer the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, but did not receive the title. After the war, it was reported that the documents were lost.

Liberation of Crimea

Before the battles for the Crimea, Pavel Tigranovich Zargaryan was awarded the Orders of Lenin (as commander of a tank platoon) and Bogdan Khmelnitsky 3rd degree (as company commander) of the 101st tank brigade of the 19th tank corps. In Crimea, he joined the rank of senior lieutenant, where he became a three-time order bearer, for the displayed heroism he received the Order of the Red Banner. And then (after the liberation of the peninsula), he defeated the Nazis already in the rank of captain, was awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd and 1st degree. About his glorious deeds are better told by the mean lines of the Award sheets.

I will cite an extract from the Award sheet for the commander of a tank company of the 432th tank battalion of the 101st tank brigade of the 19th tank corps of Lieutenant P.T. Zargaryan:

“Lieutenant Zargaryan, participating in battles from October 21 to 29, 1943 for the settlements of Gutertal, Dormstadt, Chekhograd, Zaporizhzhya region, skillfully organized tank control as a company commander. His company, breaking into the rear of the enemy, caused panic and, deepening 35 km, smashed the rear of the enemy: destroyed 28 guns, 50 vehicles and up to 35 soldiers and officers. Himself from his tank destroyed 4 guns, 2 aircraft, 45 soldiers and officers. He deserves the government award of the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 3rd degree.

Captain Moshkarin, commander of the 432th tank battalion, October 30, 1943. "

By order of the troops of the 4th Ukrainian Front No. 291 dated November 30, 1943, P.T. Zargaryan was awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 3rd degree.

In the battles for Crimea, P.T. Zargaryan showed exceptional heroism and courage. When the battalion commander (near Sivash) and his deputy (on the outskirts of Dzhankoy) were killed, the battalion subsequently operated in Crimea under its command.

Zargaryan, being the commander of a tank company and a battalion, liberated the Crimea, including the cities of Dzhankoy, Simferopol and Sevastopol. His tank was the first to enter the liberated city. At least it was to this event that a monument was erected.

Extract from the Award sheet to P. T. Zargaryan:

“From the time the brigade entered the breakthrough from 11.4 to 04.20.1944, he proved himself to be a determined and courageous commander. The company he commanded inflicted heavy losses on manpower and equipment. Comrade Zargoryan personally led the reconnaissance of 3 tanks and led behind enemy lines. Aside, I noticed the enemy airfield and attacked it on the go, where it destroyed 6 enemy planes, without any losses on its part. When in battles the commander of the battalion and his deputy, comrade. Zargoryan took command of the battalion himself and led him into battle. Commanding a battalion, comrade In the battles for the village of Mamashay and Belbek, Zargoryan showed personal courage and courage, where his battalion was among the first to break into the settlements, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy in manpower and equipment. In Mamashai, he destroyed 2 enemy self-propelled guns. For personal bravery and heroism in battle, he deserves a government award of the Order of the Red Banner.

Commander of the 101st Tank Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Khromchenko on April 25, 1944. "

By order of the troops of the 4th Ukrainian Front No. 147 / n dated May 14, 1944 P.T. Zargaryan was awarded the Order of the Red Banner. On April 22, 1944, Senior Lieutenant Zargaryan was wounded in one of the battles.

About the commanders of the 432th tank battalion ...

The fact that Pavel Zargaryan really became the battalion commander during the battles for the city of Dzhankoy is evidenced by the Award List signed by him on the deputy commander of the 432th tank battalion on the front part of the 101st tank brigade, Captain Pyotr Anatolyevich Korzh (born 1910, Novosibirsk GVK in 1940). He died on April 13, 1944, having been mortally wounded during battles near the city of Dzhankoy. Before the battles for Crimea, P. A. Korzh was awarded the Order of the Red Star. It was under his command, after the death of the commander of the 432th tank battalion, Captain Ivan Nikolayevich Moshkarin (later the Hero of the Soviet Union) in the battles for Sivash, that the tankers continued their combat journey to the city of Dzhankoy. I note that before the battles for Crimea I.N. Moshkarin was awarded the orders: Lenin, Red Banner and World War 1 degree. After the death of Captain P. A. Korzh, the battalion was already operating under the command of Senior Lieutenant P. T. Zargaryan.

Extract from the award sheet:

“Comrade Korzh P.A. even before the entry of the 432th tank battalion into battle paid maximum attention to the timely and high-quality preparation of the battalion personnel for the upcoming battles for the Crimea. High knowledge of his official duty, as a practitioner of modern military science comrade Korzh became a valuable and authoritative leader in the post of deputy battalion commander for the combat unit among the personnel of the battalion. When, in a hot battle, during the breakthrough of the strongly fortified front line of the enemy’s defense in the Sivash district, the battalion commander, comrade. Korzh calmly, confidently led the battalion forward on the enemy, inflicting heavy losses on manpower and equipment. The enemy fled in panic. The battalion, under the command of Mr. Korzh, soon approached the mountains with battles. Dzhankoy, where is Comrade Korzh was mortally wounded. He deserves the government award of the Order of the Patriotic War of 1 degree.

The commander of the 432th tank battalion is senior lieutenant Zargaryan. 04/21/1944 ".

This award sheet was signed by the commander of the 101st Panzer Brigade (April 21, 1944), the commander of the 19th Panzer Perekop Corps (April 27, 1944). By order of the troops of the 4th Ukrainian Front No. 147 / n dated May 14, 1944, P. A. Korzh, “posthumously”, was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree.

The site “Feat of the People” also contains other documents that were signed by the senior lieutenant P.T. Zargaryan, commander of the 432th tank battalion of the 101st tank brigade [ significance of fact? ] . For example, the commander of a tank platoon of the 4th 32nd TB Lieutenant Vladimir Andreevich Vasiliev, born in 1922, was introduced to the Order of Alexander Nevsky on April 21, 1944 (received by Order No. 147 / n of the 4th Ukrainian Front on May 14, 1944). After the battles for the Crimea, in the same 1944, in the battles for Lithuania, already deputy commander of the 1st battalion for the combat unit of the 101st Panzer Sivash Brigade, Captain P.T. Zargaryan was introduced to the Order of Alexander Nevsky. But he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, since this order was not relied on in this position (this was noted on the Award sheet). So, on August 27, 1944, being the deputy battalion commander for the combatant part of the 101st tank battalion, Captain P.T. Zargaryan was introduced to the order of Alexander Nevsky. But, despite the fact that the Commander of the 101st Panzer Brigade and the commander of the 19th Panzer Perekop Corps signed the Prize List, by decision of the Commander of the Armored and Mechanized Forces of the 1st Baltic Front, No. 027 / n dated October 26, 1944, he was awarded the Order World War II degree. However, having studied the entire Order, I found out that then the rewards of many in dignity were lowered.

On the site “Feat of the People” there is information that in 1985, to the 40th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, P. T. Zargaryan was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree [1] .

Monument and crew

The tank was towed to Simferopol, and on June 3, 1944, the Red Crimea (the so-called Crimean Truth) spoke about the opening of a tank monument in the Pioneer Garden (Victory Square). The installation of the monument tank was initiated by the chief of staff of the 216th engineer battalion of the 19th tank corps of captain S.F. Korobkin and lasted from late April to late May 1944. According to the memoirs of the director of the Crimean Museum of Local Lore, war veteran V.N. Bukharkin, who was then the commander of the 216th engineer battalion, “his inexhaustible energy, knowledge of the business, enterprise provided the opportunity to complete this unusual task ... But there were no building materials in the city” . V.N. Bukharkin personally worked with his fighters at the installation of the monument, and captain S. F. Korobkin, after the end of hostilities, "took over, if one may put it this way, the ideological leadership of the structure."

The flamethrower tank OT-34 No. 201 was chosen as a monument, which, according to some reports, was one of the first to enter the city on April 13. A metal plate was installed on the front of the monument with the inscription: “Eternal memory to the heroes of the 19th Perekop Red Banner Corps who fell in the battles for the liberation of Crimea. April May". Under it are listed 19 names. Among them is Lieutenant Colonel M.F. Khromchenko , commander of the 101st Sivash Tank Brigade , who died near Sevastopol . One of the authors of the project of the monument, captain N. S. Prudnikov, and. about. commander of the 216th engineer battalion, died April 27, 1944 in the battles for the liberation of Sevastopol and is also buried here.

On June 3, 1944, the monument tank was inaugurated in Pioneer Park (now Victory Square ). Near the monument were the graves of the dead tankers crowned with pyramids, and some were fenced with a plank fence. Later in 1949, their remains were transferred to the military cemetery of Simferopol on Starozenitnaya Street.

According to the sketch of the monument, a white Inkerman stone was chosen for facing the pedestal and basement. Around the monument should be placed 10 concrete columns connected by chains. However, as of 1945, the monument was surrounded by a fence of columns connected by metal pipes. In the future, the monument was reconstructed and rebuilt several times. By 1969, there was no longer a whole plate, and the text was typed in metal letters placed directly on a white tiled finish. Board number 201 appeared on the tower, later also a guards sign was put on the right side of the tower.

On January 16, 2003, in connection with the construction of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, with the participation of veterans and the public of Crimea, the monument tank was installed on a new pedestal and moved several tens of meters within the square. The new memorial complex was supplemented with slabs with the names of units liberating the Crimea in 1944. Thus, in the center of Simferopol, within the Victory Square, in addition to the two existing monuments - the heroes of the Russian-Turkish war and the liberators of the Crimea from Nazi invaders - the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky was also built, which together form a single architectural ensemble.

Also, when digging a pit for the cathedral, the remains of Soviet soldiers were discovered, which, as it turned out, were not transferred in 1949. They were reburied in the cathedral.

Although the monument was originally erected in honor of the soldiers of the 19th Red Banner Perekop Tank Corps, now it has become a more abstract symbol. The inscription on the monument was expanded: “Glory to the defenders and liberators of Crimea 1941-1944.” Deputy Director of the Museum of History of the City of Simferopol L. N. Vyunitskaya believes that this is not true: “Instead of building a memorial worthy of all the liberators of Simferopol, they took and distorted this monument. The burial places were removed, the original text of the initiation was changed. And now he is generally devoted to almost all compounds. ”
