Historical background
The first name of the street, according to the legend of elderly old-timers of these places - Arkhangelskaya . One of the buildings of the current Proletarian plant, house 2A, was built on the very spot where the church with the throne was located in honor of St. Michael the Archangel. The second name of this street - Moskovskaya - has been known since 1896 . The name came from the Moscow railway line in the direction of which the street led.
The renaming on January 16, 1964 into Krupskaya Street pursued two goals:
- eliminate duplicate names;
- to immortalize the name of Nadezhda Konstantinovna Krupskaya (1869-1939), the Soviet statesman and party leader, wife of V. I. Lenin.
The name of the street after Nevskaya Zastava is symbolic: it was here in the mid-1890s. N.K. Krupskaya taught at Smolensk Sunday School (modern address is 107 Obukhovskaya Avenue). Among her students were workers Ivan Babushkin , the Gribakin brothers, Vasily Shelgunov , whose streets are also named after Nevsky District.
