Biography

Swiss citizen. The first information about it dates back to February 2, 1835, when it was written in the journal of the Academy of Arts : β€œHaving recognized Rusko as the appointed academician of this Academy, assign him the following program for the title of full academician: make a public library project for 200 thousand books, with all the amenities and facilities required by such a building, the facade and profile should have a measure in the drawings Β½ inch per fathom, and a plan ΠΏΠ»Π°Π½ inch per fathom . " Judging by the scale set by the Academy of Arts, Ruska was supposed to present a drawing of enormous size; unfortunately, it is not known whether Ruska presented this drawing and the Academy of Arts found it unsatisfactory, or simply Ruska was satisfied for a while with the title of β€œappointed to academics” and, for a number of works, did not produce the required project. Received the title of academician Rusk much later for another project; On September 27, 1846, Ruska for the "project of public baths with conveniences and luxury" , in "respect for art and knowledge, proved in art by the program, was elevated to the rank of full academician. He was seconded to engineer-general-lieutenant Bazen, who was the manufacturer of the Trinity Cathedral of the Life Guards of the Izmailovsky Regiment, which was under construction, Bazin instructed Ruske to oversee the construction of the large dome of the cathedral; such a responsible assignment shows that Ruska was appreciated as an experienced architect. Ruska’s equally large work was sent to Constantinople, to the Russian Embassy, as an assistant architect during the construction of the β€œmessenger house.” The certificate issued by Ruske as extraordinary envoy at the Ottoman Port indicates that he held this position from June 1838 to the end of 1843. This period of time Ruska married a second time to "Ekaterina Dmitrieva", a Catholic confession, from which then his daughter Virginia was born. Arriving from Constantinople to Russia, with the permission of the Minister of the Imperial Court, Rusko was appointed a β€œstone craftsman” during the construction of the circus theater, where he stayed from July 12, 1847 to January 29, 1849. The circus theater is currently the Mariinsky Theater , of course, rebuilt after the fire. During the construction of this theater, special attention was paid to a significant overlap with a dome; Recalling that the first work of Ruska was the dome of the Trinity Cathedral, we can conclude that he was considered an expert in the construction of arches. After the aforementioned work, Ruska was seconded to His Majesty's Cabinet "to use the method he invented to drain the buildings from dampness of the court buildings." By order of the Minister of the Court of February 24, 1849, Ruska was sent to the architect Rossi to continuously monitor the successful execution of works to increase the four boxes of the front of the stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater . One of the following works of Ruska should be considered as drawing up an estimate for the restructuring of the prosecutor general's house. [four]

For his work Ruska repeatedly won the highest awards; Thus, on February 14, 1835, he was graciously granted a golden watch with the same chain for work on the dome of the Trinity Cathedral, β€œas a reward for excellent work and zeal,” and a snuffbox was granted to him for the restructuring of the boxes at the Alexandrinsky Theater. [four]

He died in April 1861 in St. Petersburg.
