History
The Goryanka was made in 1965 by the outstanding sculptor Khamzat Krymshamkhalov . Officially, the monument was called “Invitation to Karachaevsk,” but locals simply nicknamed it “Goryanka” [1] .
The sculpture was made of gypsum, and over the years began to collapse. After numerous restorations, it was decided to recreate an exact copy of Goryanka from more durable material [2] .
In the summer of 2014, the residents of the city were presented with the updated Goryanka, an exact copy of the former, but made of aluminum material. The local sculptor Hassan Dzhurtubaev worked on the new Goryanka [1] .
Description
A goryanka girl in a national costume holds out a bowl of ayran , which recalls the ancient custom of Karachais and Balkars to treat a guest or traveler passing by the house with ayran [3] .
