After leaving Small Faces in 1978, Rick was involved in the recording of David Gilmore 's self-titled debut solo album with William Wilson on drums. The following year, Willis became a member of the Foreigner group [4] and stayed in it for fourteen years.

In July 1999, he replaced Lynyrd Skynyrd with their former bass player Leon Wilkeson when he got sick. On April 24, 2001, he appeared at a concert in the memory of Steve Marriott, as part of a band that also included Bobby Tencha , Zack Starkey and Rabbit Bandrika [6] [7] .
