Biography

Born on July 27, 1900 in the city of Piraeus in the Achaea region in the north of the Peloponnese.

After studying at the Pireis school, from 1915 to 1919 he studied at the theological faculty of the University of Athens . After graduation he moved to Alexandria, where he taught at the gymnasium Αβερώφειο Γυμνάσιο Αλεξάνδρειας .

Then from 1924 to 1927 on the scholarship of the Greek scholar Nomikosa ( Greek. Χ. Α. Νομικός ) continued his education in philosophy and pedagogy in Germany and France. In 1927 he defended his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Tubingen . Among his teachers were Heinrich Meyer , Max Desuar , Edouard Spranger , Kurt Levin , Nikolai Hartmann and Max Scheler in Germany, as well as Henri Bergson , Leon Brunswick and André Lalande in France.

In 1931, Papanutsos returned to Greece, where he continued his teaching activities. He founded and headed special seminars for teachers (from 1931 to 1934). From 1934 to 1936 he headed the Pedagogical Academy in the city of Alexandroupolis . From 1937 to 1938 he was deputy head, then head of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences Janina ; from 1938 to 1939, he worked at the seminars on άαράσλεεο Διδασκαλείο in Athens ; from 1939 to 1943, he headed the Pedagogical Academy in Tripoli , and from 1943 to 1944 - the Pedagogical Academy Ράλλειο Παιδαγωγική Ακαδημία in Piraeus .

After the liberation of the country as a result of the end of World War II, Evangelos Papanutsos switched to government activities, working in the Ministry of Education of Greece in the governments of Georgios Papandreou and Nikolaos Plastiras . Simultaneously, from 1947 to 1967, he nevertheless taught at the народθήνααον himself established by the National University. Here he founded the journal δαδεία και Ζωή , which was published annually from 1946 to 1961. During these years, led a weekly column in the newspaper " To Wima ."

Since 1958, he worked as the Deputy Chairman of the Athens Institute of Technology ( Greek Αθηναϊκό Τεχνολογικό Ινστιτούτο ) and at the technical school of Konstantinos Doxiadis , which he headed until 1975. In 1966, he worked as a visiting professor in the USA and reflected his impressions of this country in his book Amerika (1966). Among other things, he visited the University of Minnesota .

During the period of military dictatorship, from April 1967 to July 1974, he participated in the political life of Greece, was a member of the party Ένωσις Κέντρου . From 1974 to 1977, he was a member of the State Council ( Greek. Βουλευτής πικρατείας ), where he was engaged in educational reforms. In 1980, Papanutsos was elected a permanent member of the Athens Academy. [2]

He died May 2, 1982 in Athens.
