Biography

Born in 1900 in the family of a military official in the city of Velizh . After graduating from high school in 1918. entered the Petrograd Institute of Railway Engineers , where he studied until 1919. During his studies, he began to join the group of anarcho-communists.

Civil War

In the Red Army since March 1918. From March 1918 to June 1918 he served as the clerk of the military academy in Petrograd . Since June 1918 he served in the Red Army as a private, then as the head of a dozen guerrilla unit "Petrel". In the summer of 1918 he was arrested by the White Guards , but was able to escape from captivity. He returned to Petrograd in September of the same year and began working as a controller in the district food committee, while continuing to study at the Petrograd Institute of Railway Engineers. Soon he moved to his homeland where he began to work as a rural teacher. Since August 1919, again in the personnel of the Red Army - instructor of the political department of the 2nd Army , then an instructor of the political department of the Special Group of Forces of the Southern Front . In December 1919 he was arrested by the Cheka . He was under arrest until March 1920. From March to May 1920, he was an investigator of the military tribunal of the 17th Infantry Division . From May 1920 he served as company commander, then the battalion of the 151st rifle regiment, after which he commanded a battalion in the 153rd rifle regiment. Then he commanded the 51st brigade of the 17th Infantry Division. During the Battle of Warsaw, he served as commandant of Minsk . Since August 1920 he was authorized by the special department of the 4th Army , then the head of the intelligence department of the 16th Army . From April to December 1921 he was in the position of head of the secret-operational part of the Special Department of the Western Front .

Soviet period

From January 1922 to December 1923 he served as deputy of the Special Department of the Moscow Military District . In December 1923 he entered the Higher Academic Courses at the Military Academy . From December 1924 to December 1925 - student of the Oriental faculty of the same Academy . In October 1925 he was sent to the Republic of China as a military adviser. In China, he served under the pseudonyms "Nikitin" and "Gordon." From 1925 to 1926 he worked in the Kalgan intelligence group. Organizer of intelligence schools for training specialists in the city of Canton . He directed intelligence activities in the southern regions of China. From 1926 to 1927 he was in the Guangzhou Reconnaissance Group and the 4th Corps of the National Revolutionary Army of the Republic of China. He took part in the NRA Northern campaign against the Bayan militarists . Participated in the assault on Wuchang . Upon returning to the USSR in 1928 he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner . In the same year he graduated from KUVNAS at the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze. From January 1929 to January 1929 - commander of the 99th Orenburg Rifle Regiment. Under the pseudonym "Vysokorets" in 1930 he wrote the book "Chinese Army". In the same year he was sent to the USA as an illegal resident. He was in intelligence work until 1933. Since May 1933 - in the armored forces of the Red Army. From May 1933 to February 1935 - assistant to the chief of the armored forces of the Leningrad Military District . From February to August 1935 - commander and military commissar of the 31st separate mechanized brigade. In August 1936 he was sent to Spain as a military attache. Served under the pseudonym "Sancho" [1] . He made a great contribution to the defense of Madrid against the troops of Francisco Franco . [1] . On the positive side, Spanish General Vicente Rojo spoke about Vladimir Gorev. [1] . In 1937 he was sent to the Northern Front to plan military operations. After failures on the Northern Front, in particular, after the capture by the nationalists of the city of Bilbao , he returned back to Madrid [2] . For military merits in Spain he was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner . In October 1937 he returned to the USSR.

Career Decline and Doom

Arrested on January 25, 1938. On June 20, 1938, the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR was sentenced to death on charges of participation in a military conspiracy. The sentence was executed on the same day. Rehabilitated by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR on October 13, 1956.
