Biography
Feofan Fedorovich Taranov was born into a peasant family in the village of Yandovy, Semenovsky district, Nizhny Novgorod province (now Semyonovsky urban district of the Nizhny Novgorod region ). In 1935 he graduated from the 4th grade of school, worked as a foreman on a collective farm.
In the summer of 1942, the Semenovsky District Military Commissariat was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army , on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War from March 1943. He fought on the Bryansk , Byelorussian , Western, and 2nd Byelorussian fronts.
By order of the 837 rifle regiment of September 10, 1943, ordinary Taranov was awarded the medal "For Courage" for courage and heroism in the battles against the German fascist invaders.
In the period from June 25 to August 11, 1944 in offensive battles for the city of Mogilev and overcoming the Dnieper , Resta and Basia rivers, the mortar gunner Sergeant Taranov suppressed 8 enemy firing points with a mortar fire, destroyed one direct-attack weapon, destroyed 13 enemy soldiers. By order of the 238th Infantry Division of August 31, 1944, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
In battles in East Prussia for the cities of Ribbach and Bischofsburg ( Biskupiets in the Warmia and Mazury voivodeship of Poland ), from January 28–30, 1945, 5 enemy firing points and up to 20 enemy soldiers and officers were killed by calculations of the mortar department of sergeant Taranov. In battle, on February 15, 1945, near the village of Lyubenstal in the district and Kulm Taranov, 7 enemy soldiers killed from their personal weapons. By order of the 49th Army of March 13, 1945, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
During the storming of the city of Danzig ( Gdansk ) on March 25–31, 1945, sergeant Taranov crossed the sleeve of the Dead Vistula in the Vistula Delta and supported the forcing of the river by the units of the regiment with a mortar fire. At the same time, he destroyed 2 enemy snipers and several soldiers.
On April 20, 1945, during the crossing of the Oder River near the town of Schwedt, Sergeant Taranov was among the first to cross the river and covered the crossing of the river by the main forces of the regiment with a mortar fire, destroying several enemy soldiers. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.
Sergeant Taranov was demobilized in 1946. Returned home. He lived in the city of Semenov , worked as a press operator at the Khokhloma painting factory, was awarded the Order of Labor Glory of the 3rd degree for labor differences.
In 1985, in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Victory, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree .
Feofan Fedorovich Taranov died on August 17, 1987. Buried in Semenov.
