Sports Biography
In August 2015, Dovgalyuk was included in the Russian national team to participate in the 4 × 200 meters crawl relay race at the World Championships in Kazan . At the preliminary stage, the Russians showed the 7th time and made it to the finals. In the decisive swim, Dovgalyuk and his partners went for a long time in the top three, but according to the results of the entire distance, the Russian team became only the 4th.
In April 2016, Mikhail with a result of 1: 47.83 s. took fourth place in the Russian Championship at a distance of 200 meters freestyle, which did not allow him to break into the Russian team to participate in individual competitions at the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but by decision of the coaching council Michael was included in the relay team application 4 × 200 meters [2] . In total, according to the results of the national championship, Dovgalyuk became a three-time medalist in relay races. At the games in Rio, Mikhail took part in the relay team 4 × 200 meters. The Russian team qualified in this kind of program to the finals with a third result. In the final race, a team consisting of: Danila Izotov, Alexander Krasnykh, Nikita Lobintsev, Mikhail Dovgalyuk, took 5th place. Russians finished third by Japanese swimmers by 2.2 seconds. Team USA won gold. The second time showed the British [1] .
In December 2016, Dovgalyuk, at the ongoing World Championships in Canada, as part of the relay team qualified for the final race with the 5th result [2] . In the final race, the Russian men's team consisting of Mikhail Dovgalyuk, Mikhail Vekovishchev, Artyom Lobuzov and Alexander Krasnykh won the gold medal [3] with a score of 6.52.10. The second place went to the USA team, the third to Japan.
Doping
- On October 21, 2013, it was announced that Mikhail Dovgalyuk was disqualified for 1 year for consuming methylhexaneamine [3] . The period of ineligibility began on July 3, 2013 [4] . Based on this incident, the International Swimming Federation suspended the athlete from the 2016 Olympic Games . On August 4, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne declared illegal the rule of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to exclude Russians with a doping past from the 2016 Olympic Games. As a result, the Russian national swimming team in Rio performed in full force [4] .
