The Shards ( German: Scherben ) is a German silent film directed by Lupu Pieck , filmed in 1921 [1] .

Creation
In working on his films, Karl Mayer found in Lupu Peak a director equal in talent to him. However, an interesting fact is that Lupu Peak tried his best to avoid words in his films. At the end of 1926, he defined his art as follows:
"The essence interests me more than the form. Each plan should be inspired by thought. But I hate films with a given idea ... Life is an inexhaustible source by which we must invariably nourish inspiration. I am a realist. We should show life in all without hesitation . its forms, unadorned Do not idealism , it is not necessary and pessimism . In the life of joy and sorrow, the tragic and the comic are intertwined - give is this more precisely, however, is not inspired by the example of the great. "In my films, I try not to use expressionistic delusions and draw inspiration from the everyday sensations of life. I think that in our art it should mainly be shown everyday silence, which hides the wretchedness of everyday behavior dictated exclusively by habits. Story
An inspector arrives in the province who falls in love with a lineman's daughter. Soon, their mother finds them in bed, who goes to church at night and freezes. The daughter of the lineman asks the auditor to take her with him to the city, but receives a gross refusal. She tells everything to her father, and he, in a fit of anger, kills the examiner. At that moment, the only words in the film appear: “I am a killer!” ... [4]
