Biography
He studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, first with Imre Stefanyaya , Emanuel Hedi and Imre Keeri Santo , then with Ernst von Donany and Zoltan Kodaya , after which he made his debut in Budapest in 1939 with the Second Brahms Concerto (conducted by V. Mengelberg ). He continued his studies in Berlin .
In 1943 , he left for Switzerland, where he remained until the end of his life (he received Swiss citizenship in 1954 [1] ). Since 1951 participated in the Salzburg festivals. In the years 1959-1968 he led the piano courses at the Lucerne Conservatory. Since 1969, led the course of interpretation in Zurich.
During his lifetime, he enjoyed exceptional recognition. Toured in Europe, North and South America, in Australia. In 1953-1958 he performed in a piano duet with Clara Haskil .
Wilhelm Furtwängler called him the clavier troubadour. His interpretations of the works of Mozart (he performed all 27 piano concertos), Beethoven , Schumann , Brahms , Bartok were especially appreciated.
He often performed as a conductor; concerts Mozart conducted, being behind the piano, like his teacher Edwin Fisher .

Memory
After the early death of the Andes, his fame has somewhat dimmed, but the international contest of pianists in his name , which has been held in Zurich since 1979 , has helped to revive interest in the musician’s work.
