The Bairkum settlement is an ancient settlement (I century BC. - VIII century A.D. ). Located on the left bank of the Syr Darya , in the Shardara district of Turkestan region , near the village. Bairkum . It was first investigated in 1900 by N. V. Rudnev [1] , then in 1948-1949 - by the Turkestan archaeological expedition under the leadership of A. N. Bernshtam . The remains of the settlement are a quadrangular hill 1.5 m high, with a length from the north-east, 300 meters from the south-west, 400 meters from the north-west to the south-east. The hillfort is surrounded by a three-meter embankment. In the southeast, defensive walls with traces of 5 towers have been preserved. A moat was dug around the fortress with a depth of 2 m and a width of 20 m. Inside the fortress are the ruins of the citadel (a hill 9 m high), surrounded by a meter-long embankment and a moat 10 m wide.
