Member of the Chess Club. Haruzek and the Budapest Chess Club.

Hungarian champion in 1911. Silver medalist of the Hungarian championship in 1906. Member of several major international tournaments. He won twice in side tournaments of the congresses of the German Chess Union (for winning the tournament in 1910 he received the title of master).

Baras (along with I. Aboney and D. Breyer ) was one of the developers and the first popularizers of the Budapest gambit .
