Biography
He was a singer and bassoonist in the Cathedral of Caracas. Author of religious works: masses , requiems , motets , lamentations , Miserere and others (in total over 40). The most famous composition is the Mass " Popule meus " for 3 voices and 8 instruments (1801).
Already in independent Venezuela, he was buried in the church of San Pablo in Caracas, until, upon the order of Antonio Guzman Blanco, the cathedral was demolished and the Caracas Municipal Theater was built in its place.

- His name is the municipality of Jose Angel Lamas in the Venezuelan state of Aragua .
- The name of the composer was also assigned to the Higher School of Music in Caracas.
- The main choral staff of Venezuela “Orpheon Lamas” also bears the name of a compatriot.
