Hariah

Hari , or Gari (Latin Harii , German: Harier ) - a tribe in the association of meadow . According to Tacitus, they were an ancient Germanic tribe [1] .

Information and Theories

In his essay "Germany" , written about 98 BC. e. (800 years before the Battle of Havrsfjord ), Cornelius Tacitus vividly describes how the Charia with black shields, like ghosts, attacked their enemies in the dark at night, terrifying them like Old Norse berserkers :

... Having surpassed by force the just listed tribes and are fierce by nature, they, with the help of all kinds of tricks and using darkness, achieve what seems even more wild: their shields are black, their bodies are painted; for battles they choose the impenetrable dark nights and the gloomy appearance of their seemingly ghostly and grave troops inspire such horror in the enemies that no one can bear this unprecedented and as if leading into the netherworld spectacle ...

[2]

According to the theory put forward by John Lindow , Rudolph Ziemeck and Andy Orhard, the Hariahs can be identified with the Einherii , Odin's companions, and the constituent characters of the Wild Hunt . The main argument is the power in the military business and the similar etymology of the words of Charia and Einheria [3] [4] .
