ECHO is an experimental artistic association that existed in Omsk in the early years of perestroika 1987–1990. The association gave impetus to the creative development of many contemporary painters and graphic artists. At the ECHO exhibitions, artists and amateurs were able to openly declare the existence of an avant-garde, alternative approach to art. An approach that was the opposite of the then official dominance of socialist realism .

History
Omsk "ECHO" was the first association of "informal" artists in Siberia and the whole "trans-Urals." For a short period of existence, the ECHO held three exhibitions in the pavilion of the Flora square and several exhibitions at other sites of the city and region in which about thirty authors took an active part . These exhibitions have become one of the most notable artistic events in the culture of the city of that period. The founders of the association are Anatoly Shiryaev, Dmitry Chizhik, Leonid Elfimov and some others. The members of the association were students and recent graduates of the State Pedagogical Institute of Omsk Pedagogical Institute , as well as already established creative personalities. All participants, at that time, were not officially recognized artists and were not members of the Union of Artists of the USSR or Russia.
In 2008, the museum them. Vrubel, together with the Omsk Art Museum, with the support of the Omsk Region Ministry of Culture, held an exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the ECHO informal association. Picturesque and graphic works from museum collections and author's archives formed the basis of the exhibition. One of the sections of the exhibition is devoted to the works of “Ehovtsev”, created in recent years. Many artists continue to work creatively today. Some live in Omsk, some in other cities and abroad.
| A powerful surge occurred at the end of the 1980s - the beginning of the 1990s, when numerous associations and groups emerged in the fine arts of Omsk, and many distinctive and talented artists showed themselves. It is no accident that the foundation of museum funds was laid precisely by the works of young Omsk authors who were members of informal art associations of that time: "ECHO" " [1] |
Feature
Experimental art association was an organization opposite to the official Union of Artists. Members of the association experimented with the then little-known forms, and sometimes prohibited by official propaganda art directions. Directions that, in those days, were branded as bourgeois, harmful, decadent, and so on. and not reflecting the "successes of socialist construction and the education of Soviet people in the spirit of communism ." ( Great Soviet Encyclopedia , 1947 [2] )
The members of the ECHO openly declared their right to their own perception of the world around them. Artists did not position themselves as opponents of the regime but did not fit into the framework of the political system generally accepted at that time. The main directions of the paintings , graphics and sculpture presented at the exhibitions were inspired by such modern trends as Abstractionism , Symbolism , Neosurrealism , Modernism , and Surrealism . The penchant for artistic experiments, the constant search for not yet used expressive means, their free and selfless work became a milestone in the history of Omsk art.
| Confronting official art, the emergence of artists of creative associations that are alternative to the Union ("ECHO" - Experimental Art Association, "Tower", "Cross"), rejecting realistic image style, passion for avant-garde ideas of the beginning of the 20th century, including abstract art.
