The 39th men's curling world championship was held in Bern ( Switzerland ) from April 12 to 20, 1997 . Switzerland hosted the men's world championship for the 5th time. The tournament was held in Bern for the third time.

The Swedish national team became the world champion (for the third time in its history), defeating the German national team in the final with a score of 6: 3. The third place was taken by the Scottish team , who won the Canadian team with a score of 8: 4 in the match for 3rd place [1] .
At the same time as the men 's championship, the women's 1997 World Cup was held in Bern.
Content
Competition Format
First, all teams participate in the group stage, in which each team will play once with each. The four best teams go to the playoff semi -finals , the winners of which will play in the final, and the losers in the match for third place.
Member Teams
The tournament was attended by the Swiss national team (as the national team of the host country), the Canadian national team (as the reigning champion ; Canada was represented by the team of the Canadian men's 1997 team Skip Kevin Martin as the national team), six European men's teams took 1st-7th places at the 1996 European Championship years (except for the Swiss national team), the US national team (together with Canada representing North America), as well as the Australian national team (qualified according to the results of the Pacific Championship 1996 ).
