Youth and study

Volokh was born into a Jewish family [3] [4] . At the age of seven, he emigrated with his family to the United States . At the age of 12, he began working as a programmer. He attended classes in mathematics at the summer courses of Hampshire College [5] . At the age of 15, he received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. While still a freshman, Eugene earned $ 480 a week, working as a programmer in 20th Century Fox [6] . His achievements during this period were presented in an episode of the television series OMINI: The New Frontier , created under the leadership of Peter Ustinov [7] .

In 1992, Volokh received his doctorate from the University of California Law School in Los Angeles. Eugene Volokh was the clerk of Judge Alex Kozinsky in the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals , and then worked for Judge Sandra Day O'Connor in the U.S. Supreme Court . After graduating from assistant practice, he worked at the University of California Law School in Los Angeles, where he received the title of professor.

Political Activities

The ideological orientation of his blog is described as a combination of libertarian, conservative and centrist. Volokh supports the resolution of same-sex marriage [8] .

Voloch supported former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson in the 2008 presidential election , saying that Thompson had good views on legal issues and that he liked Thompson's position on the First Amendment and his political speech about McCain's sponsorship of campaign finance reform. Volokh also liked the views of Thompson in favor of individual possession of weapons. In addition, Volokh noted that Thompson “takes federalism seriously, and he seems to be quite well aware that there is a real difference between the state and the federal government” [9] .

Publishing

Volokh is known for his work on the topic of the First and Second Amendments to the US Constitution , as well as for the protection of copyright. His article “Evidence of the Second Amendment” [10] was used with the consent of the majority in the Supreme Court, led by Antonin Scalia, in the high- profile District of Columbia v. Heller case [11] . He advocates freedom of speech and freedom of religion, speaks out against racial bias, which was embodied in his participation as a legal adviser in the California Amendment campaign 209. Volokh monitors and criticizes how superficially American laws work against exploitation in the workplace, including those related to sexual harassment.

In his blog, Volokh addresses a wide range of issues with an emphasis on politics and law. Non-academic works of Eugene Volokh were published in The Wall Street Journal , Los Angeles Times , The New York Times , Slate and other publications. Since May 2005, he has been an active blogger on The Huffington Post .
