Claire Ames ( born Clare Eames ; August 5, 1894 - November 8, 1930) is an American actress, director and wife of playwright Sidney Howard .

Biography
Born in Hartford, Connecticut in the family of Claire (Hamilton) and Hayden Ames. [2] Her maternal grandfather was the Governor of Maryland and Senator William Thomas Hamilton [3] . Her aunt was an opera singer ( soprano ) Emma Ames .
After World War I, Ames, along with Jinn Eagles, was considered one of the best new actresses on the Broadway scene. She participated in productions of the works of William Shakespeare , Henryk Ibsen and George Bernard Shaw , and also starred in several silent films. She died in London at the age of 36 from complications after the operation shortly before the appearance of the sound movie. She survived: her husband Sidney Howard and daughter Claire, who will later be known as Jennifer Howard [4] [5] [6] .
