Opening

Itemira was described by Sergey Kurzanov in 1976 by the only small damaged skull found in 1958 in the area of Itemir village, on the Dzharakuduk slope, in the layers of the Bissecta formation - holotype PIN 327/699. The name of the genus is given in honor of the village of Itemir. The species name medullaris is given by the Latin name medulla oblongata , an medulla oblongata , partially enclosed in a skull box [3] .

Systematics

Kurzanov noted the anatomical resemblance to tyrannosaurids and dromaeosaurids and assigned the genus Itemirus to his own family Itemiridae . In 2004, Thomas Goltz suggested that itemir was a representative of the Tyrannosauroidea superfamily [4] . In 2009, Nicholas Longreach and Philip Curry included itemira in a cladistic analysis of the internal relations of dromaeosaurids and found that it should be assigned to the Velociratporin subfamily [5] . In 2014, during the analysis of additional material, it was found that Itemirus can be placed in phylogenesis in the dromaeosaurid family [6] .
