History
The debut is named after the Brazilian chess player Octavio Trompovsky (1897–1984), who used this beginning in the 1930-40s. Subsequently, he entered the debut repertoire of such players as DI Bronstein , G. Chepukaytis , A. Stefanova . A great contribution to the development of this beginning was made by English chess player Julian Hodgson .
The attack of Trompovsky, due to its simplicity, was also widely spread among fans.
Debut Ideas
White seeks to create difficulties for the normal development of the kingside of the opponent, often continuing with Cg5: f6, which entails the formation of double pawns . In addition, White tries to evade deeply developed variants of defense against the queen's gambit ( Nimzowitsch 's defense, Gruenfeld's defense , Indian defenses, etc.) and reduce the game to positions unfamiliar to the opponent. In a number of options, White can create a solid pawn center and capture space.
