Charles Goodhart ( October 23, 1936 , London , UK ) is an English economist. He worked for 17 years as an adviser to the Chairman of the Bank of England on monetary policy and financial stability. In 1980, he became the chief monetary policy adviser to the Bank of England. Commander of the Order of the British Empire, full member of the British Academy .

Biography
His father is a professor of law Arthur L. Goodhart, his brother is a politician William Goodhart.
He graduated from Eton College . He received a bachelor's degree in humanities from Cambridge in 1960 and in 1963 received a PhD at Harvard University.
