Biography
Born in 1869 in Aguadulce . Due to economic problems in the family, I learned only three years in primary school. At the age of 12, he moved to the city of Panama and began working at the Bazar Francés store, where at the age of 21 he already became a manager. Due to his father's illness, he was forced to return to his homeland, after his death, he engaged in growing sugar cane and raising cattle.
After the formation of an independent Panama was the treasurer of the Metropolitan District, the governor of the National Bank, became a prominent figure in the Liberal Party. In 1924 he was elected president of the country. In 1925, he had to deal with a on the San Blas Islands, as well as with the tenant movement, protesting against rate hikes, which led to serious problems. In order to take control of the situation, he was forced to turn to the United States with a request for intervention. In 1926, his government signed the Kellogg-Alfaro treaty with the United States, which provoked protests from the country's population (since it turned Panama into an automatic US ally in the event of war) and was not ratified by the National Assembly .
Rodolfo Chiari planned to participate in the presidential elections of 1932, but the coup d'état of 1931 forced him to abandon this intention. He died in the US, where he went because of health problems.
In 1960, his son Roberto Francisco also became president of Panama.
