Biography
Born in 1876. He became one of the first Panamanians who made a large fortune. After the formation of an independent Panama became the general director of the Post and Telegraph, the president of the Municipal Council of Panama, several times served as secretary for foreign relations.
Panama inherited a control system from Colombia: there was no vice-president here, but there were posts “Designado Presidencial” - the first ( Primer ) and the second ( Segundo ); The people holding these posts were to fulfill the duties of the president (in the indicated order) in case of his absence (as well as the impossibility of the presidential duties being discharged by the previous Designado Presidencial ). Designado Presidencial elected by the National Assembly for two years. In 1918, President Ramon Valdez died, and in the fall of 1918, Prim Designado Belisario Porras performed the duties of president. Since he decided to run for president in the elections of 1920, for eight months Ernesto Tisdel, who was Segundo Designado , served as president in 1920.
During his presidency, Ernesto Tisdel, in order to prevent embezzlement of public funds, vetoed a law passed by the National Assembly that established permanent salaries for deputies. Under him, American troops were withdrawn from the province of Chiriqui , who occupied it for two years. When the United States demanded that they give Taboga Island to them for defensive purposes, Tisdel stated that the country would not yield an inch of its territory.
At the end of the presidency he returned to private life.
