The women's soccer tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics was held from August 3 to 19. The first matches traditionally took place before the official opening of the Games. Draw and Sowing Teams
The draw for the competition was held on April 14, 2016 at the Maracan stadium. Previously, all teams were divided into four baskets based on the FIFA rating for March 2016. Teams from the same confederation could not be in the same group according to the results of the draw. The Brazilian national team, as the host country, was automatically qualified under the first number in group E.
