Biography
Born in Genoa in 1673. He received a military education, participated, under the leadership of Carlo De Fornari, in the suppression of uprisings in Corsica. In particular, in 1731 he arrived at the head of a detachment on the island to stop unrest and, in parallel, try to establish relations with the local population. Returning to Genoa, he took part, together with other Genoese patricians, in protecting the city from the invasion of the Austrians. His military successes contributed to the growth of his popularity among the people, at that time fierce against the Genoese nobility.
He was elected a doge on June 7, 1752, the day after the abdication of the Doge Stefano Lomellini , and became 162nd in the history of Genoa. During his reign, two main problems were: the issue of regulating the status of the lands belonging to the Genoese patricians in Corsica and the anti-Genoese unrest in Western Liguria, provoked by the unrest in the neighboring Kingdom of Sardinia .
His mandate ended on June 7, 1754 , after which he probably held public office in the governance structure of the Republic.
He died in Genoa in 1757 and was buried in the church of Jesus and the saints Ambrogio and Andrea.
From his marriage with Angela Lomellini had two children: Pierfranco (future general commissar of the East Riviera and Doge) and Maria Magdalene (future wife of Girolamo Serra).
