A curette , or surgical spoon , is a medical instrument used in surgery to remove (cure) pathological soft tissues from bones [1] , as well as in gynecological operations [2] and when removing suppuration in maxillofacial surgery and dentistry .

Description
Sharp bone spoons are distinguished, which consist of a working part with a cutting edge, a neck and a handle. There are sharp bone spoons in shape (round, oval), the diameter of the working part (small - 2-3 mm, medium - 4-7 mm, large - 8-14 mm), along the length of the entire spoon (small - 12-14 cm, medium - 15-17 cm, large - 18-23 cm); single and bilateral sharp bone spoons are also distinguished [3] .
In acute gynecological curettes, the working part is represented by a looped plate sharp working part [4] . The width of the working part varies.
Types of Curettes
The following types of curettes are distinguished [3] :
- Volkman's sharp bone spoon - a double-sided curette;
- Bruns' sharp bone spoon - a one-sided curette;
- gynecological curette - a one-sided curette in the form of a ring, sharpened from one edge, is used for curettage of the uterine cavity during artificial abortion and some diseases and pathological conditions of the endometrium.
Application
It is used for the removal of adenoids and for gynecological operations. In gynecology, it is used for abrasion (curettage) of the inner lining of the uterus (endometrium), removal of polyps, for taking tissues for analysis, removal of remaining fragments of the placenta, etc.
