Special Effects
In one episode of this film, mutilated but still alive dogs that were suffering from pain were shown. The director was accused of cruelty to animals , and he appeared in court , he was even threatened with a prison term . But Carlo Rambaldi , who did special effects in this picture, brought to the courthouse the models that were used on the set of the film, demonstrated them in his work, which proved the innocence of Lucio Fulci.
In the scene with bats, Rambaldi specially created mechanical bats that glided on wires and flapped wings. Subsequently, overlays of their shadows were added to the mice. This scene, according to Fulci, impressed Mario Bava himself . [one]
