Biography
She was born on April 26, 1872 in the town of Bzince pod Javorinou , in the vicinity of the town of Yavorina, Austria-Hungary, now in Slovakia, in a teaching family, which in 1910 moved to the town of Nove Mesto nad Wag .
She studied in her hometown. Her first tests in the writing field were supported by Uncle Ľudovít Rizner and the local pastor, while the writer was Ján Pravoslav Leška . Later, for some time, she worked as an employee of the Red Cross, helped her father at school, but most of her life existed on small incomes from literary activity.
She published her first work in the Budapest newspaper Slovenské noviny and in the magazine Vlasa svet in 1887-1888. In Slovakia, her works appeared in 1892 in the newspapers Národnie noviny and Slovenské pohľady . She originally wrote poetry, then decided to devote herself to prose. She remained known as the founder of modern Slovak literature for children. Some of her works have been translated into foreign languages. In the USSR , her poems “The Sparrow Built” and “The Frog” were known, according to which the cartoon of the same name was shot.
Died March 2, 1951 in the city of Nove Mesto nad Vahom of Czechoslovakia, now in Slovakia.

Lyudmila Podyavorinskaya was the first writer to be awarded the title of People's Writer of Czechoslovakia. A museum is open in her homeland; her name is asteroid No. 42849. [1] In 1972, a postage stamp of Czechoslovakia dedicated to the writer was issued. [2]
