In the summer of 2013, the social media movement began using the #BlackLivesMatter [2] hashtag . This happened after George Zimmerman , who committed the murder of African-American teenager Trayvon Martin, was acquitted.
The movement became widespread in 2014 during street demonstrations caused by the death of two African-Americans: Michael Brown and Eric Garner . The movement also took part in protest marches to commemorate many dead African Americans, including Eric Harris, Walter Scott, Jonathan Ferrell, Sandra Blanda and Fredy Gray.
In the summer of 2015, the movement publicly showed dissatisfaction with politicians on the subject of racial discrimination. Black Lives Matter is united by an idea, but has no formal hierarchy or structure. [3]
