Heinz Schulz-Neudamm ( German: Heinz Schulz-Neudamm ; 1899 - 1969 ) - German graphic artist, poster artist, illustrator; the author of many film posters for films of German expressionism and the classical period of Hollywood [1] [2] .

Biography

Born July 7, 1899 in the city of Neudamm (now: the city of Debno in Poland ).

In the 1920s, Heinz began creating movie posters. Until the 1940s, he worked in Berlin , where he gained fame under the pseudonym Schulz-Neudamm. He became known for his posters for American films of the 20th Century Fox , Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer , and Deutsche Universal Film AG .

He was also responsible for the design of Gestaltung der ParUfaMet-Pressehefte and Paramount-Journals , worked as an illustrator for Filmillustrierte magazine. Since the early 1950s, Schulz-Neudamm lived in Wiesbaden , where he still worked for the film industry, in particular, the famous company United Artists .

He died on May 13, 1969 in Wiesbaden.

Some of Schulz-Neudamm's works are in famous art museums in Germany and the USA, having acquired sufficient value at present. So the most expensive movie poster in the world is his poster for the film " Metropolis ", shot by Fritz Lang in 1936. In 2005, in London, one of the four surviving copies of this poster was acquired by a private American collector for 398,000 pounds ($ 690,000 ). [3] Two copies of the poster for the Metropolis are in private collections, one each at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Museum of Cinema in Berlin .
