Chorrillo Football Club was founded in 1974 in the metropolitan area of El Chorrillo in order to distract local youth from criminal activities [1] . In 1998, “Chorrillo” had a real chance to leave the Second Division in the Panama Football League, but in the decisive match in the penalty shootout gave way to the team “Municipal de Colon”. [2] . Finally, in 2001, the club managed to achieve the first time in its history that Panamanian football entered the elite. There Chorrillo managed to gain a foothold and in the early years played the role of a middle peasant, periodically taking the 3rd place or entering the final phase, but not overcoming the semi-final stage. In 2009, Chorrillo for the first time managed to reach the final of the tournament, confidently sorting out the Tauro in the semifinals (3: 1 at home and 3: 0 away). In the final, Chorrillo lost the championship title to San Francisco only in a protracted penalty shootout. In the next Panama Championship draw, the team managed to defeat Arabo Unido 3-0 in the first semifinal match in the first semifinal match with a 0-4 score and leave the tournament. In the 2011 Clausura finals, Chorrillo again lost the league title in a stubborn duel against San Francisco, losing 2 goals to Roberto Brown in the 83rd minute and 1st minute of extra time.
For the first time, Chorrillo became the champion of Panama on December 2, 2011, defeating the Plaza Amador team with a score of 4: 1 in the final of Aperture 2011 . The club won the next title 2.5 years later, having defeated Rio Abajo in the 2014 Clausura final thanks to Sergio Romero 's only goal in the match in the 91st minute.
In the final of Aperture 2015 , Chorrillo lost the champion title to Arab Unido only in the penalty shoot-out.
On the international stage, Chorrillo made his debut on July 31, 2012 as part of the CONCACAF Champions League 2012/2013 and was defeated away by the Mexican Monterrey with a score of 0: 5. In his group, Chorrillo lost all 4 matches. In his opening match of the CONCACAF Champions League 2014/2015, “Chorrillo” managed to win his first victory by defeating the Mexican “ Cruz Asul ” at home 1-0, but after 4 rounds he again took last place in his group.
The phoenix depicted on the club’s emblem symbolizes the revival of the El Chorrillo area after the devastation that occurred as a result of the US invasion of Panama in the late 1989 – early 1990s.
