Uimon painting is a direction of arts and crafts that originated in the Uimon Valley in Altai. A distinctive feature of the style is the synthesis of several techniques, such as the processing of semiprecious stones, wood carving, felting, turning products and wood painting. The main themes of the works are myths and legends of the peoples who inhabited Gorny Altai in ancient times: Scythians, Türks, Altai. In their works, artists use materials from the cultural heritage of Altai: national ornaments, “animal style” , preserved cave paintings and archaeological finds. The new style began with the collaboration of wood and stone craftsman Viktor Nikolayevich Likhachev and Altai artist Anatoly Petrovich Veselyov, the authors of the creative association Gems. [one]
Creation History
The creative association "Gems" was organized in 2013 in the village of Verkh-Uimon, Ust-Koksinsky district of the Altai Republic, in the art workshops of the Siberian Roerich Society on the basis of the branch of the Museum of N. K. Roerich [2] , and is currently developing several areas of decorative applied art. Long creative searches led to the painting of wooden inlaid with stone forms. The composition of the first works of Uimon painting was that a composition was created around the inlaid stone in the center, the purpose of which was to reveal the natural expressiveness of the mineral and focus on it. Subsequently, the shapes of both the products themselves and the inserts changed, just like their number and size, which made it possible to give the product variety.
