Biography
Born on November 19, 1935 in Kharkov .
In 1959 he graduated from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute , and until 1960 he worked as an engineer at the Physics Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences, in 1960-1961 he worked as an engineer at the post office No. 320 (now it is an NPO named after academician N. A. Semikhatov , Yekaterinburg ).
From 1961 to 1962 he was a graduate student of the Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation of the USSR Academy of Sciences, then he was transferred to the graduate school of Moscow State University (1962-1964).
From 1962 to 1968 - work as a junior research fellow at the P.K. Sternberg State Astronomical Institute, Moscow State University.
From 1968 to 1990 - head of the laboratory, then - head of the department of the Space Research Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 1977 - defense of a doctoral dissertation.
From 1990 to the end of his life, he was Deputy Director of the Astrophysical Center of the P. N. Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In 1997 he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Department of General Physics and Astronomy (specialty "Astronomy").
He was a member of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a member of the International and European Astronomical Unions .
Author of over two hundred scientific articles.
He died on September 22, 2008 . He was buried at the Khovansky cemetery in Moscow (Central Territory, study No. 146).
Scientific activity
Vyacheslav Slysh proposed a method for determining the size of synchrotron radiation sources (called the Hearing formula in the scientific literature), predicted the existence of compact radio sources associated with quasars and active galactic nuclei. He showed the possibility of the existence of ultra-compact nuclei with a brightness temperature that significantly exceeds the synchro-Compton limit for non-stationary sources.
He conducted the first research on the low-frequency radio emission of the Sun and the Galaxy using the interplanetary automatic interplanetary stations Venera , Mars , Luna-11 and Luna-12 , which revealed the role of the ionized gas of the Galaxy in the formation of its synchrotron spectrum.
In these experiments, low-frequency bursts of solar radio emission associated with the release of energetic particles and shock waves from the corona into the interplanetary medium were first recorded. As a result of studies of the radio emission of interstellar molecules of hydroxyl, water, formaldehyde and methanol, a large number of maser radiation sources were discovered in the Galaxy associated with the regions of the birth of new stars.
He showed that masers associated with star formation regions, in particular masers in interstellar hydroxyl lines, are located in the bowels of molecular clouds. He conducted extensive reviews of the Galaxy with the aim of searching for new methanol masers, as a result of which about 100 new masers were discovered.
Heard became one of the initiators and participants in the creation of “ RT-70 ” - a new full-turn radio telescope of millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths with a diameter of 70 meters on the territory of the Suffa International Radio Astronomy Observatory, located on the plateau of the same name in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan.
Rewards
Prize named after F. A. Bredikhin (1995) - for the series of works “The discovery of new methanol masers”
