Geography
The length is about 2 km. The smallest width is 0.05 km, the largest is 0.13 m. The average depth is 2.5 m, the largest is 16 m . The lake is used for recreation, fishing.
The lake is located in the floodplain (left bank) of the Desna ː in the south of the Desnyansky district of the Chernihiv City Council, east of the administrative border with the Chernihiv region. The lake basin has an elongated curved (sickle) shape. The lake was formed by changing the meandering channel of the Desna River. It is separated from the Desna by an isthmus 100 m wide. It is connected by a stream flowing from the western tip of the lake to the Desna. During the flood period, the channels connects with the lakes located to the south, Glushets and Lopukhovatoe .
The banks are gentle. The coast is overgrown with coastal vegetation ( common reed ), and the water mirror is overgrown with water ( submerged hornwort , yellow capsule , species of the genus rdest ). The banks are occupied by deciduous trees dominated by poplar . Plantations were planted in the 1960s, which eventually led to siltation of the lake’s water mirror. According to the project, it is planned to replace the current plantings with other tree species (mountain ash, red oak , birch). The edges of the curved basin pass into the wetland areas.
Power ː rain and ground, partly by communication with the Desna. It freezes in winter.
Crucian carp, perch, pike, tench, high water and others are found in the lake. It is a nesting place for birds. Serves as a breeding ground for fish of the Desna River.
